I am glad you brought column by Marlon James to our attention. I started reading his novel The Book of Night Women and couldn't get beyond the first two chapters because (then) I was easily bored. I will attempt it again. Or maybe just skip it altogether and read A Brief History of Seven Killings.

I love this article for its writing and I think he is very truthful in writing about the Jamaica he experienced which is too bad. Particularly frightening is this experience:

u might find A BRIEF HISTORY OF 7 KILLINGS a bit tedious...he jumps from character to character, telling their story....not one smooth read so to speak..to be truthful, i found it a bit tedious..

This is one aspect of Jamaican families I just can't take:

Now I know this happens all over the world. The Chinese have had their mistresses and concubines, in the Middle East there is the 4 wives business but man....mi just can't tek the 2 women pregnant at the same time bizniz. I just learned that a famous reggae producer has 35 children.



He is married now but don't know if he was before. And noh boddah come with this don't judge business. There is NO excuse for this kind of slackness. What's up with the women a spread out fe every man dem tink ave money.
